LUSAKA Province permanent secretary Emeldah Chola says creation of new districts by President Sata will foster development in remote areas of Zambia.
Brigadier General Chola said the creation of new districts will reduce dependency of rural areas on urban areas.
“The creation of new districts will also help curb the problem of rural-urban migration because development will be taken to the people even in remote areas of Zambia,’’ Brig, Gen Chola said.
Brig. Gen. Chola said development will be along improved provision of services and investment which will in turn be a source of jobs and wealth creation.
Speaking in Rufunsa when chief Mpanshya handed over land for the development of the district to Government, Brig.Gen Chola said land must be developed in an orderly manner.
Brig.Gen Chola said land within the township boundary is well planned to ensure that development in Rufunsa district takes place in a controlled manner.
She said land falling within the township boundary will be under the state and therefore the said land will be developed according to the standards.”
“The new district development will encompass infrastructure and introduction of services such as piped water, health and education facilities, electricity and others services,’’ the permanent secretary said.
And Deputy Minister in the office of the Vice-President Davis Mwango said creation of new districts is an opportunity for Government to propel economic and social development.
Mr Mwango said the development will also facilitate employment creation for young people.
He said the development of the district will facilitate utilisation of various natural resources available in the district.
“We have 45, 000 people in Rufunsa living in a rural set-up with limited access to public service and social amenities,’’ Mr Mwango said.
Mr Mwango said development will benefit the local people through building of houses, roads, education and health facilities.
Mr Mwango said the new district status will also attract people to invest in Rufunsa.
He said development of Rufunsa is cardinal because Lusaka city is becoming small for development, and so Rufunsa is the district that is likely to experience development next.
And Chief Mpashya said the creation of Rufunsa as a district will greatly benefit the locals and the future generation.
In a speech read on his behalf by his representative, Agness Kalonga, Chief Mpashya said headmen have agreed to pave way for the construction of Rufunsa town.
