SHARING the Word of God with fellow Christian artistes and men of God has been a wonderful experience since my arrival last month here: so says an enthusiastic award-winning gospel diva, Suwilanji in a telephone interview from New York.
The Zambia Music Award winner for Best Female Gospel Artiste says she has been overwhelmed with the anointing and her transformation through ministering the Word of God as well as the praise and worship at various churches since arriving in the US last month.
Last Monday, Suwilanji said she had a rare opportunity of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with several blessed men and women of God, who earlier sampled her new album of Mulilonshi during the Sunday church service at the Bethel Fellowship Church.
“Apart from the weather which is excellent, I have also been warmly welcomed by my fellow Christians here and it is so amazing that even here, my music and the message of Christ has been well received,” said the Mwanjitile Akale song sister, whose appearance at the Bethel Fellowship Church has been beaming on Youtube.
Talking about her new project aptly titled Mulilonshi, her sequel to her debut album of Mwanjitile Akale, Suwilanji said the songs on the album, like on her maiden package, have managed to impact the faith in most believers wherever she had performed and ministered so far.
The 2007/2008 Mukuba Award Best Female Artiste award-winning songstress’ songs have not only had a huge impact on her fellow Zambians, but more than often, wherever she has ministered across the African continent.
Suwilanji, who, incidentally turned 30 on June 10, has not only managed to put across the message of Jesus’ teachings through her songs such as Lesa Wandi, MuJerusalem, Nkabafwaya and Ni Mwe Bene, from her debut album, but has seemingly done so with some divine intervention.
Late last year, the former Lubuto Secondary School pupil in Ndola, redefined her gospel music ministry with a touchy album titled Mulilonshi, which contained the worship songs Ni Mwe Nkabila, Munjibukishe, Takuli Inshina, Mpaleni and Ali Mupepi, which helped her scoop the coveted inaugural Zambia Music Award last February.
Suwilanji, whose music is inspired by the likes of numerous South Africa award winning gospel diva and popular Gospel Time talk-show presenter, Rebecca Malope and Australia’s Hillsong United, has so far shared she stage with US gospel mega worshippers, Michael W. Smith as well as Tommy Walker. She returns home next September.
Meanwhile, back home, Sydney the Captain launches his astonishing new album of Aboola Mwami at the Olympic Development Centre on July 5, his events manager, Langford Nyirenda has announced.
Several award-winning local gospel artistes such as Felix of the Ndangeni Inshila fame, the awesomely talented singing family group, Peace Peacherz, newly discovered gospel diva-in-the-making, Regina Mwanza and the Abundant Praise, have all been confirmed to appear on the night.
Others who have been lined-up to share the stage with the Captain include Marvellous, Khondwani Munthali and Innocent Mumba, who recently stormed the gospel music charts with his assurance album of Nshakachule.
According to Nyirenda, several firms including Sounds Investment and Brela Motors have come on board to support the whole show, while mobile telephone providers, MTN and Zamtel, have also since been approached for support.
I recently sampled Sydney’s new album, sub-titled War Project and I guess the songs Nshakatine, Mwamfumya Apa (featuring Kings Malembe Malembe), Chikondi, Mui Lesa, Nkabombela and Namitemwa, may soon inevitably find some space in the hearts of all gospel music lovers.
According to Sydney, the 2012 Ngoma Award winning gospel minister said the whole project is inspired from the Book of Ephesians 6:10-18 because it is time to put on the amour of God if the world has to conquer the devil and his adversaries.
Apart from Felix, who is riding high with his debut album aptly titled My Turn, the Peace Preacherz, meanwhile, continue to inspire with their new album titled Ninkumbu Shenu.
With such songs as Ukusumina Muli Yesu, the Lingala-sauced Yoka Kolela (Hear our Cry), Masiya Masiya, Epusukilo Ya Mweo and Weutusebulula, the album is already competing favourably with their own award-wining album, Katalalika Wamabimbi.
The innovation crippling in the musical wizardry of the Peace Preacherz, which comprises of among its members, Martha, Rabbi, Serai, John, Dorcas, Moses and Monica Chishimba of the same family, have also revealed the remixed version of Katalalika Wamibimbi in Tonga (re-titled Haumuya Wama Yuwe) and in Lozi (Mukuzisi Wamandinda).
With other multi-talented vocalists such as Petershakes Kaira, Maria Chishimba, Joseph Chitoma and Favour Chishimba coming on board, the 2012 CHAPRO award-wining group, was last week at the St. Margaret UCZ church in Chililabombwe for some awesome praise and worship. Details will be exclusively on this column next week.
