LUAPULA Province permanent secretary Chanda Kasolo has dismissed claims by Chipili member of Parliament Davies Mwila that there is no development taking place in his constituency and the entire region.
Mr Kasolo said contrary to Mr Mwila’s assertions, Chipili Constituency is undergoing massive transformation by virtue of being a new district.
“Chipili is one of the areas in Luapula Province which are witnessing several development projects among them being infrastructure development,” Mr Kasolo said.
He said the development projects taking place in Chipili include the construction of houses for civil servants.
Mr Kasolo said Government has so far built 10 houses for civil servants who will be deployed to the area.
He also said several investors have expressed interest in investing in Manganese mining in Chipili Constituency.
He said Chipili will also benefit from the construction of the Mansa- Luapula road under the Link Zambia 8, 000 project.
Mr Kasolo said the contractor is ahead of schedule and the project will soon be completed.
He also said the Chishinga Ranch project which covers 44, 000 hectares of land between Kawambwa and Chipili will offer employment opportunities to Chipili residents.
Mr Kasolo said that apart from these projects, the provincial administration has also lined up several projects in the health and agriculture sectors.
He advised Chipili residents not to worry because it will now be easy to allocate funds to the area after it was upgraded to a district.
Mr Mwila recently alleged that there is no development taking place in Chipili and the entire Luapula Province.
Meanwhile, CHRIS NDHLOVU reports that Mr Kasolo yesterday intervened and prevented a protest by some residents of Mansa over the upgrading of Mutende primary school into a Secondary School.
Mr Kasolo explained that Mutende primary school will continue operating as a Primary School with additional infrastructure to accommodate a Secondary School.
He said Government will put up infrastructure to accommodate the secondary school so that pupils are not displaced.
