THE latest Auditor General (AG)’s report reflects that Government’s crusade against corruption and financial indiscipline is yielding positive results.
Acting chief Government spokesperson Fackson Shamenda says the 2012 AG’s report shows that there has been a sharp decrease in the misappropriation of public funds since the Patriotic Front (PF) government came into office in 2011.
Mr Shamenda said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that as shown in the report, funds misappropriated in 2012 amounted to K463,000 compared to K1 million each in 2011 and 2010.
“This spending performance has not come by accident or surprise. It is a result of a deliberate, consistent and aggressive fight against corruption and embezzlement of public resources being waged by the PF government under the leadership of President Sata,” he said.
Mr Shamenda commended law enforcement agencies and the public for their collective support, resolve and determination in the fight against corruption in the country.
He said Government is happy that the fight against graft has seen a drastic reduction in the misuse and misappropriation of public resources as reflected in the 2012 AG’s report.
Mr Shamenda said Zambia is in a hurry and hungry for development, adding Government’s resolve and commitment are that public funds are put to good use for the benefit and improvement of people’s living standards.
