THE Ndola Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a man to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for burglary.
This is in a case in which Luke Phiri, 32, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to breaking into a building with intent to commit a felony.
Magistrate Ben Akende on Wednesday last week convicted Phiri after he admitted the charge.
“On your own admission of the facts, I find you guilty of the offence and I convict you accordingly. I sentence you to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from December 20, 2013,” Mr Akende said.
In mitigation, Phiri begged the court for leniency because he is a married man with two children and he has suffered while in custody due to harsh prison conditions.
Phiri told the court that he was drunk when he committed the offence.
Particulars of the offence are that Phiri on December 19, last year, in Ndola, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown broke into a shop with intent to commit a felony.
