ZICTA unveils service charter

By TRYNESS MBALE
THE Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has launched a service charter to reposition its service delivery to stakeholders in the information communication technology (ICT) sector.
ZICTA board chairperson Emmanuel Musonda said the re-engineering of the authority’s service delivery will enhance relations with all stakeholders through the development of an effective service charter.
Mr Musonda said this in a speech read for him by ZICTA director general Margret Mudenda at the launch of the service charter in Lusaka recently.
“This charter has come at a time when this institution has been challenged by the public to be more aggressive, more visible and proactive in its service delivery to give value for money to the Zambian people,” he said.
He said the charter would improve stakeholder perceptions with regard to the execution of its mandate and turnaround time in all areas.
Mr Musonda said the new system would ensure that ZICTA fulfils its mandate in service delivery.
“Through this service charter, we aim to reposition the authority by ensuring all stakeholders in the ICT sector in Zambia experience the service as promised in this newly-developed charter,” he said.
At the same occasion, Deputy Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Commination Mwimba Malama said Government attaches importance to widespread use of ICTs, as they are catalyst for development across all sectors of the economy.
Mr Malama said the universal nature of ICTs require an effective regulatory environment that will promote access to ICTs and foster sustainable development of the sector.
“It is indeed a bold step in the right direction that the authority has taken and as such, Government fully commend this initiative,” he said.
He said the charter would ensure the authority is accountable to its stakeholders and enhance service delivery through meeting and exceeding established ethics.
