PRESIDENT Sata has arrived here to attend the 22nd African Union
(AU) heads of state and government summit which starts tomorrow, January 30,2014.
The presidential Challenger jet carrying Mr Sata landed at Bole
International Airport at 14: 35 hours local time, (13:35 hours Zambian Time).
Mr Sata, who is accompanied by First Lady Christine Kaseba and his
Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah, was
welcomed by Ethiopian Minister of Science and Technology Demitu
Hambisa.
Others who welcomed President Sata are Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Wylbur Simuusa, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Bob Sichinga,
Zambia’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Susan Sikaneta, her deputy Sam Mujuda
and other senior Government officials.
Mr Sata is tomorrow expected to join other heads of state and government
at the AU summit which is being held under the theme “agriculture and
food security.”
The heads of state and government are expected to deliberate on
agenda 2063, a 50-year strategic plan which envisages a prosperous
Africa and the possibility of the formation of a Confederation of
African States.
Also on the agenda of the summit is the security situation in South
Sudan, Central African Republic (CAR) and Eastern Democratic Republic
of Congo (DRC).
