A 26-YEAR-OLD man of Mpulungu is battling for his life in hospital after he was stabbed in the face by an unknown person during a drinking spree.
Northern Province deputy commissioner of police Milner Muyambango confirmed in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Thursday around 20:00 hours at Mpulungu main market.
Mr Muyambango named the victim as Jupter Mwila of Mupeta village.
“The two were drinking beer at the market when a quarrel ensued and Mwila was stabbed in the face by the man who is still on the run,” Mr Muyambango said.
He said Mwila sustained deep cuts on the cheeks and a swollen face.
Mr Muyambango said police have opened a docket in the case and are yet to arrest the suspect.
“Once the suspect has been apprehended, he will be charged with unlawful wounding,” Mr Muyambango said.
