THE wheels of development are turning quite fast across the country following numerous economic and social infrastructure development the Patriotic Front Government has rolled out.
Western Province, hitherto seen as neglected, has been fully embraced and is certainly headed for huge economic boom. The government has invested huge sums of money in all the sectors of the economy, chief being education, health and roads.
The province will now be on equal footing with the rest as far as development is concerned, many thanks to the direction President Sata is giving the country.
Two weeks ago, the President communicated to the nation that the Mongu-Kalabo Road currently under construction will not only create job opportunities but also stimulate economic development.
This particular project has already created 1,118 jobs, perhaps the biggest there has been under one programme in the province. By December 2014, over 1,700 would have been employed. Youths, who sometimes slide into social misdemeanours due to joblessness, will now have something to cheer about – the PF government has secured their future through job creation.
The road, once completed, will also open up the province to more development initiatives within the country and trigger trade between Zambia and Angola. When this project is completed, the province could even become the national breadbasket as agricultural activities – fisheries and land tillage – will certainly be boosted.
This is one project, just like many others, that will make all Zambians proud, not only because of its awesome sight, but great potential to be the main economic driver in the province.
Rather than watch at a distance and probably dismiss it as a rumour, President Sata invited all to see for themselves: “I urge you all to take time and visit the construction site whenever you are in Western Province so that you can have firsthand appreciation of what your dedicated Government is doing to improve rural livelihoods.”
The project has not come by chance; it is as a result of the PF’s thorough planning and unquestionable resolve to develop the province. This particular project will cost the government K1.4 billion.
The fact that 48 percent progress has been made on engineering, design and construction means the road will soon be ready.
It’s not only Western Province that has benefitted from the steady development in the road sector. The rest of the provinces, or in short, the entire country has seen massive construction of roads and creation of jobs.
More recently, the President announced that the construction of roads on the Copperbelt has created over 2,000 jobs. There are similar projects in Southern Province that will create a similar number of jobs.
The PF Government has remained steadfast on its promises to develop the country through the construction of economic and social infrastructure and at the same creating thousands of youths.
These projects will benefit all Zambians and, therefore, deserve the support of everyone.
