Former Minister of Transport and Communications William Harrington who applied for a judicial review in the case alleging misconduct on the part of Tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo has been cheered by the court’s decision to reverse the decision and allow a probe.
Mr Harrington says the setting of a tribunal, to him, means that the Zambian judiciary has ‘integrity’.
“High Court judge Dominic Sichinga should be commended and I also have no doubt that there was no political interference in this case. This is good for the judicial system in the country because it has been perceived to be biased,” he said.
Mr Harrington said yesterday that what is remaining is for Ms Masebo to exculpate herself from the allegations.
He said that he has since written to acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda to swear in the three judges that are supposed to sit on this tribunal so that the case is disposed of once and for all.
And United Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Charles Kakoma said that Zambians should be applauded for ensuring that transparency prevails.
MMD director of communications Muhabi Lungu said that the probe on Ms Masebo is good and will give a lot of credibility to the country’s judicial system.
Mr Lungu said that the PF government should, by all means, avoid double standards so that people will have confidence in it.
