THE Patriotic Front (PF) Northern Province executive committee has expelled suspended Kasama Central member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba pending approval by the national disciplinary committee.
Last month, Mr Mwamba was suspended from the party for allegedly bringing the name of the party into dispute.
PF Northern Province secretary Everest Chela said a full provincial executive committee convened in Kasama yesterday and resolved to expel Mr Mwamba from the party.
He said in an interview from Kasama yesterday that the provincial executive committee is satisfied with the recommendations of its disciplinary committee to expel Mr Mwamba from the party.
Mr Chela said the resolution of the provincial executive committee will be submitted to PF national disciplinary committee headed by Minister of Defence Edgar Lungu for approval.
“We are now communicating through you, the media, to the nation that Mr GBM from today onwards stands expelled from the party. The full provincial executive committee sat this [Monday] morning at 10:00 hours and decided to expel him.
“He [Mr Mwamba] had an opportunity to defend himself on Saturday when he was summoned to exculpate himself, but he did not come,” he said.
Mr Chela added: “The decision we have made will be taken to the national disciplinary committee and we are optimistic that they will uphold our decision.”
On Saturday, the provincial disciplinary committee summoned Mr Mwamba to appeal before it but he refused to comply.
During its meeting, the committee recommended that Mr Mwamba be expelled from PF.
