GOVERNMENT has reiterated its call on citizens to sacrifice following the removal of fuel and maize subsidies as the decision has long term benefits.
Deputy Home Affairs minister Nickson Chilangwa said on Sunday at Matero United Church of Zambia Congregation in Lusaka that the removal of subsidies will enhance economic growth in Zambia.
The removal of fuel and maize subsidies does not have an ugly face as some people want to suggest, he said.
Mr Chilangwa said government intends to construct more roads from the savings that will be made from the scrapping the subsidies.
He said the decision will facilitate the construction of health centres, schools and roads.
Mr Chilangwa said President Sata means well on the removal of subsidies and the savings will be put to good use.
He said that the same people who are complaining about the removal of subsidies will appreciate the benefits in the long term.
Mr Chilangwa also launched the Reverend Home Empowerment initiative at the same church.
The initiative is aimed at empowering Reverends with houses after retirement.
Mr Chilangwa who donated KR5,000 to the project said the initiative is cardinal as it will ensure that Reverends do not suffer after leaving office.
He said the people in charge of the project should ensure that the money is used properly.
Speaking at the same function, Matero UCZ congregation Luckson Siwale said the church will work with the government of the day.
Reverend Siwale said it is not necessary to oppose government for the sake of it.
He said that the peace Zambia is enjoying should not be taken for granted and urged the clergy to support the government of the day for continued peace, stability and development.
