LIEUTENANT-GENERAL Ronnie Shikapwasha on Friday night revealed his romantic side when he kissed his wife Jane in public and ordered married couples attending his grandson’s wedding reception to do likewise as an example to the bridegroom on how to show intimate affection to his newly-wed wife.
Gen Shikapwasha, the former Information minister in the Rupiah Banda administration, turned ‘sexy’ after he was called on to give marriage tips to Stephen Chikoti, who married Sharon Bwalya at a colourful ceremony held at Mulungushi Service Club in Lusaka’s Chamba Valley.
He started giving the counsel by advising the couple to “honour God, who sanctions marriage.”
“The Bible says he who finds a wife finds a treasure so you, Stephen, have found a treasure…because she is the daughter of Jesus, if you love her, you will receive blessings. Every married man must love his wife the way God made marriage. You must love her in all situations; when she feels sorry you must be sorry with her, when she feels happy you must be happy with her.
“It is impossible for the woman to give her best without love. We must all love our wives. When you give her more love it will polish her as a treasure. To Sharon, honour your husband and give him respect as the head of the family,” Gen Shikapwasha said.
He urged men to allow their wives to have spending capital, saying “your money is her money; you must allow her to spend it well.”
After further counsel to the couple and assurances to the bride’s family, Mr Shikapwasha called his wife Jane to the podium and told Chikoti to take a leaf from how he (Gen Shikapwasha) has looked after his spouse for 44 years.
“After 44 years, Sharon should look like this. Don’t make her fat but you are going to look after her with love. Don’t deny your wife publicly,” he said.
It was at this point that he called married couples in the audience to go in front and ordered them to start kissing as an example to Chikoti on how to publicly show his love for Sharon.
“All these wonderful people are showing you how to show your love for Sharon in public. Do it one more time,” he said as the couples locked lips while he, too, had his own go on Jane as the rest of the elated audience burst into wild cheers.
After the kissing spree, Gen Shikapwasha told the couples: “If he hasn’t kissed you it is public confession that he, doesn’t love you.”
In April, 2007 Reverend Shikapwasha, who is a senior pastor at Jesus is Life Church, was quoted in the local media disclosing that he was a man of many women and that Jesus had been patient with him until he was saved.
