Dear editor,
THE tendency of waiting until someone is dead to honour them must come to an end. This idea of praising people once they are dead is not good because people must enjoy their honour while they are alive. I am not in any way suggesting that we must never honour our departed beloved ones who served the nation diligently.
However, it will be more valuable to honour someone while he or she is still alive so, as such, we need to change our culture of honoring more dead individuals and leaving out those who are alive and have massively contributed to a lot to the nation.
While I have enjoyed perusing the responses concerning my earlier suggestion of honoring Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya, I appreciate what other people have said on the naming of the new stadium in Lusaka both online and in the print newspapers. I must say that I still stand by my earlier suggestion to honour even those who have achieved while they are still alive.
